Welcome to the YUM Chefs Summer Camp Page!

Summer 2018 Registration WILL OPEN at the beginning of the new 2018 year.

Unless otherwise noted, camp hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm. There is Extended Care available for select camps from 3:00pm-5:00pm, at an additional cost. Please note that there is no morning Extended Care.

PREVIOUS: Summer Camp'17 Session

Session 1: Combo Cooking Around the World and Baking and Pastry
Dates: May 30- June 9th* 
For kids going into 2nd-5th grade
Extended care is available for this camp

Description of Camp: *NEW TWO WEEK CAMP!* In this two week camp, kids will learn how to create different dishes from around the world! Learn how to make homemade dough and craft delectable pizzas from Italy with a California twist, make zesty "Mission Style" burritos inspired by our neighborhood, learn how to create delicious veggie rainbow sushi and prepare flavorful Chinese dim sum favorites.
*No Camp Monday May 29 Memorial Day

Session 2A: Cooking School 101: Exploring Professional Cooking Techniques with recipes from around the world
Dates: June 12th-16th 
For kids going into 4th-9th grade

Description of Camp: In this one week camp, students will learn the building blocks of cooking including knife skills, broth and sauce making, and proper vegetable cookery. It is modeled after the introductory cooking classes in culinary school. Learning how to season and pair flavors will also be extensively explored. This class is essential for beginners, and beneficial for students with cooking experience who are looking to hone in on their technical skills. 

Session 2B: Cooking through Asia
Dates: June 19th-23rd
For kids going into 4th-9th grade

Description of Camp: In this one week camp we will be creating delicious and fragrant Asian dishes. Learn how to make a variety of curries from Thailand and India, as well as noodle dishes from China and Thailand, Japanese sushi and Vietnamese spring rolls!

Session 3A: Baking and Pastry
Dates: June 26th-June 30th 
For kids going into 4th-9th grade

Description of Camp: In this one week camp learn how to make breads, muffins, scones, and crackers in this camp. While the focus is on baking, we will create healthy savory recipes for lunch to compliment the sweet goods. Example: last year's camp recipes included baked pita bread sandwiches made from scratch.

Session 3B: Cooking Around the World
Dates: July 3rd-7th* 
For kids going into K-2nd grade
Extended care is available for this camp

Description of Camp: In this one week camp, kids will learn how to create and bake different dishes from around the world! Session 4: KMS Science is Everywhere/ Y.U.M. Chefs the Science of Baking
Dates: July 10th-July 21st
For Kids going into K-5th grade

Description of Camp: *NEW TWO WEEK CAMP!* Want to learn about rotational inertia by tossing a pizza? The KMS kitchen is a great lab for all kinds of delicious and edible experiments! We will team up with KMS for 2 weeks of cool kitchen science with a focus on baking and pastry. Topics will include thermodynamics, physical vs. chemical changes, yeast and other yummy fungi and more!

Session 5A: Cooking Around the World

Session 6: Latin Cuisine/ KMS De Colores Spanish Immersion Camp
Dates: August 7th-18th
For kids going into K-5th grade

Description of Camp: *NEW TWO WEEK CAMP!*  Through captivating and varied activities, your child will experience the Spanish language through Latin culture using all of their senses. Campers will hear, speak, taste, create, draw, act, play, dance and more while learning about different countries in Central and South America. Recipes from latin countries will be explored including homemade tortillas, salsas, empanadas, mole and more! Our sunny Mission neighborhood is an extension of the De Colores classroom. Campers will go on several field trips; some field trips from past summers have included la panadería, la biblioteca, el parque, taquerias, and more.
